Hunterdon County

Hunterdon county was established in 1714 and is in the central west part of our state. The name Hunterdon is derived from Robert Hunter who was one of our colonial governors. Hunterdon County spans over 437 square miles. Less populous than neighboring Somerset county, Hunterdon’s 125,000 residents enjoy a more rural experience with sprawling green parkland and two of the State’s premier reservoirs. Round Valley and Spruce Run reservoirs provide fishing, swimming boating and kayaking. The less dense country feel is balanced by the accessibility of Route 78 which provides a direct artery to more metropolitan areas nearby.
